Room 11’s Quaint Vibe

This past week my boyfriend guilt tripped me into seeing Willie Nelson. Seriously. One of my few regrets in life is never going to see Bruce Springsteen and the E Street band play. So all the boy had to say to get me to the concert was “Clarence Clemons.” But upon arriving at the 9:30 club last Thursday, we found, to our dismay, that the concert was postponed because of illness.

We were disappointed but decided to enjoy the warmer weather and walk back to Columbia Heights up 11^th Street. Once in my neighborhood we stopped by Room 11, one of my local favorites. This cute, cozy wine bar with a good small plates menu has been one of my go to places since it opened. We ordered their Tripel Karmeliet beer which was delicious. It was like drinking caramel in beer form. Our usual routine is to get one of their cupcakes of the day, this time chocolate with hazelnut frosting plus a cheese plate. Both did not disappoint.

If I didn’t know Columbia Heights, though, the Yelp mobile app would help you find this quaint locale, though. Using the Yelp app, a quick search of Columbia Heights reveals Room 11, which has 4 stars, plus shows you where it is on a map. In my opinion Room 11 is worthy of 4 stars.

Then the great functions of this app is reader restaurant reviews. The reviews are divided into reader highlights, which summarize things that come up in multiple interviews like the fact that you can bring your dog to Room 11’s patio, the cheese plate is de-lish, and the goat cheesecake is fabulous. By using the collective voice of many reviews, you get a quick picture of what’s worth trying. Then the quick tips function gives you just a flavor for the place, what the atmosphere is like, and quick thoughts. The more detailed reviews you can then read if you want a more full picture of the restaurant or if you want to really hear someone’s opinion on different menu options.

In short, the Yelp mobile app is a good way to get a picture of local restaurants, even more hole-in-the-wall sorts of places. Relying on the collective power of Yelp users lets you know just what to get when you go out to eat!
